3/27/2005: Tube: Best Week Ever

I love this show. Every weekend they review the week's pop culture events (and non-events) and deliver them to us in easy to swallow capsule form. They do it with a revolving cast of comedians and writers plus a few celebs, all offering quick quips in the style of VH1 favorites like "100 Most Outrageous  (fill in genre)  Moments" and "I Love the 80s". They toss in a few mini-skits each week too, but never too many.

This week's installment included speculation on what Michael Jackson might be doing every morning to cause the back problems that keep making him late to court; the Pat O'Brien voicemail tape (you can hear it here); Sony's new Playstation Portable; and how Rob & Amber (from "Survivor") are evil geniuses taking over this season's "Amazing Race".

They also skewered Senator Bill Frist's diagnosing Terri Schiavo and explaining her condition to Congress after having "reviewed tapes"..

Features on every show include the top five things we might have missed but need to know about <koff>; "The Sizzler" (usually a piece of hot celeb gossip or scandal); news, tv shows or movies getting a lot of buzz; and "Upgrade/Downgrade" - quick opinion ratings on hot topics. Each episode closes with the eagerly anticipated announcement of who's having the "Best Week Ever".

There are always a few very special moments on "Best Week Ever". An example from this week: returning from commercial, the announcer says in a snotty, scornful tone "While YOU were searching for your wife's 'real killer' this week Robert Blake.. WE were searching for the best tv moments!"

"Best Week Ever" airs on VH1 on Friday nights with repeats throughout the weekend. Give it a shot - chances are you'll come back.
