4/7/2006: Inspiration, have I none

Well, the Olympics have been over for awhile, and even though I have a rant or three every day about something idiotic or something fabulous, I haven't been putting them here.. obviously. So what's new?

I've been avoiding posting a lengthy love/hate item about Pogo but that's on the way eventually, as is a shocking (to me) little item about 9/11.. and no, it doesn't involve Martin Sheen. I should also post another gig-beg soon as I'm criminally broke, but let's not go there now. All things in good time.

I've seen a lot of good flicks and read some good books recently but everyone and their aunt is blogging movie reviews these days, and Aunt Everyone gets more traffic than I do. I'll post something up sooner or later for you faithful 2Centers, but meanwhile, TV is easier.

I can't get too excited about "Survivor" or "American Idol" or "The Apprentice", although I do check in on "Idol" once in awhile to watch Simon Cowell pound Ryan Seacrest into pulp without even trying. I catch "Apprentice" most weeks but it's pretty much turned into an hour-long infomercial for whatever corporation Trump's in bed with each week. I signed up for the text message alerts out of curiosity last week and I have to admit they're kinda fun.. mostly because The Donald himself sent the final one for the ep. (Yea sure, I know his minions' minions' minions wrote and sent it, but don't ruin it for me.) "The Amazing Race" continues to be the best quality reality going, and it's back to world destinations and grown-ups (sort of) this time, as it should be.

Flavor Flav is the single most watchable reality star anymore.. his third VH1 show "Flavor of Love" just finished with a train wreck reunion to end all train wreck reunions - it was the perfect topper for a perfect train wreck of a show that was, incidentally, VH1's highest rated show ever. He'll be back with my favorite aspiring Flava ho, Tiffany "New York" Patterson for a fourth series in a few months, since winner Nicole "Hoopz" Alexander didn't last and superstar loogie hurler Brooke "Pumkin" Thompson is now reportedly engaged to one Courtney Taylor. I hope Ms. Taylor gets some Spit-Off Spitwad Remover® for an engagement present, 'cause she's gonna need it sooner or later. Courtney "Goldie" Jackson was the best part of every ep she was in and is now doing standup comedy, so signs looks good that the fan favorite may return as well.

The currently-running "Surreal Life 6" promises to be one of the best ever. We've got Poison's wild chld C.C. DeVille, fresh out of rehab the morning taping started, and ultimate celeb tranny and "Friends" in-law Alexis Arquette in there for fun; and Playboy model Andrea Lowell and borderline famous person Tawny Kitaen are there to fulfill the required cable T&A quota. Tawny's still riding on her laurels from rolling around on that car in that Whitesnake video, but she seems to be highly unbalanced and has an entertaining insecurity-posing-as-overconfidence way of (not) coping with everything and everyone. Rounding out the cast is Sherman "George Jefferson" Hemsley, who's mostly quiet and doesn't get much airtime; Smashmouth singer Steve Harwell, who put everyone in the band's latest video for the 2nd ep;
"Tough Enough" winner and now-WWE star Maven Huffman, who's as likeable as he was in the MTV series he won; and Mrs. Brady herself, Florence Henderson, who apparently deems herself above everyone else and won't sleep overnight with them. She also finds her own way to field trips and avoids the fun on the bus, and she's pretty much as drippy as you ever thought she would be. Good watching!
